Welcome to this active site. Each week I am going to present to you an endgame position for you to solve or to workout the best continuation. Computer analysis will also be considered. Some of these positions will come from actual historical games. Others will be composed endgame studies, but all the solutions will be relevant to the practical game. The new position will occur each SUNDAY and I will always be pleased to receive POSITIVE feedback about the positions and the analysis and I will try to acknowledge these where relevant.

German Grandmaster. World Champion from 1894-1921. The Moscow 1925 International tournament had an immense impact on the growth of chess in the Soviet Union. The chief stars were Capablanca and Lasker, and the Moscovites turned out in their thousands to see their chess idols in action. The whole nation was gripped by "chess fever" and it was to last a long time.
The tournament was won by Bogolyubov (15.5), ahead of Lasker (14), Capablanca (13.5), Frank Marshall (12.5), and Savielly Tartakower and Carlos Torre (12). Considering his age and the glare of publicity, the Moscow result with Lasker coming second must be looked upon as a great success for him.

Black simplies the position by swapping the light squared Bishops and then exchanging the Queens. He achieves an ending in which he has a big positional advantage on the queenside.
